About Us

summerbridge2

Summerbridge Louisville (SBL) is a 6-week free summer school for rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders in Jefferson County.  The mission of our program is to prepare under-resourced students for greater academic success in math, reading, and writing skills while also building social and emotional confidence.  Every summer, the majority of our students increase both their math and literacy competencies in just 6 weeks, validating our belief that both small classrooms and young teachers can make a difference in the lives of students.

SBL is modeled after a national program located in San Francisco, California, now renamed Breakthrough Collaborative. Summerbridge Louisville  began in 1992 with 25 students. From 1992-2004, SBL was housed at Kentucky Country Day School. In 2005, the summer program moved to the Ursuline Campus (Sacred Heart Academy) located on Lexington Road.  In 2019, due to a limitation of space at Sacred Heart, Summerbridge moved to Louisville Collegiate.  This partnership has been a good meld of missions and we believe it will only grow stronger as we work together to strengthen and grow Summerbridge.
