About Us

Summerbridge Louisville

Summerbridge Louisville (SBL) is a free, 6-week summer academic program for underserved middle school students in JCPS.  Our program is designed to help students from sliding academically during the summer months and keep them engaged in a variety of educational and extracurricular activities.   SBL is different than most out of school programs as we focus on math, language arts, and character building in small classroom environments.

A day in the life...

For six weeks, our days are filled with activities that inspire thinking, doing, and learning.  From conflict resolution, to food literacy, to martial arts, we give our students new tools to help them navigate their environment.

Our Model

Our Classrooms.

Summerbridge hires and trains college students who have a passion for children and learning.  These young people become mentors to our students and can more readily relate to the trepidation of middle school years, especially in our small classroom environment.

I am the Executive Director of Summerbridge and I welcome you to the new website!  Summerbridge has been in our community for over 20 years and yet we remain a well-kept secret.  While our program is small, we see great changes in our students every summer.  Our focus is not only on academics; we believe in building character,  honesty, accountability, and compassion.

Our very small organization relies heavily on donations and volunteers.  We have almost no overhead as we have no facility and one full-time staff.  Our generous community has given in spades, especially our alternating hosts, both Sacred Heart Academy and St. John Paul II, that donated their space during the summer for our students.  If you are interested in learning more about us, please contact me at (502) 767-6663 or at kblsummerbridge@gmail.com.
